Casino Royale
This is the first Bond book I have ever read; probably the first actual spy novel as well. I have always been a big fan of the Bond movies, but I wanted to see for myself the original incarnation.
(I should note, I have not yet seen the movie version of Casino Royale, so I am comparing this Bond to the one from other films)
The book Bond is similar to the movie Bond in that they are both British spies with a double 0 designation. They are both sophisticated men that can blend in to high society with ease. They both like martinis.
And that is where they start diverging. Book Bond does not like working with women; they always get in the way. He has no fancy gadgets or equipment, only his keen wits. I could go into further detail, but it would probably spoil the book for those that have not yet read it.
Ultimately, the book read like a prologue. I suppose that makes sense as there are a number of other books in the series, but it still left me a little unsatisfied at the end. Don’t get me wrong; I certainly enjoyed the book. It just felt like there was much more to the story.

The Bond books are fantastic. Most of the films have been very good, though some have been better than others :)
