More often than not, whenever somebody discovers that not only have we managed to get Jenn pregnant, but also with twins, they usually make some remark along the lines of "you're the man" or something similar. I suppose, in most circles, fathering twins is some kind of sign of potency and manhood. I have looked at the numbers with our IVF and I am not so sure.
First of all, the doctors retrieved thirteen eggs from Jenn. When combined with the sample that I provided, seven of those eggs ended up fertilized.
Think about that for a second. Thirteen eggs to start with; seven fertilzed. While my contribution was not counted (at least we were not told any specific number), samples of mine in the past were on the order of X million little swimmers, were X was between roughly twenty and fifty. Even with the most favorable numbers for me (statistically speaking anyways), only seven out of twenty million managed to do their job correctly. Of the seven fertilized eggs, we transferred two back into Jenn and both implanted.
The hard numbers:
- Dave:
- 7 successful fertilizations / 20,000,000 candidates = 0.000035%
- 7 successful fertilizations / 13 eggs = 53.85%
- Jenn:
- 2 embryos transfered / 2 embryos implanted = 100%
So who appears to be "the man" here?
Oh, but the egg has the easy part: just lie there! ;)

For real, Mazel Tov.
