How to win a Crypto Challenge

So, to take a break from the hectic pace of life to do something interesting for a few minutes, I thought I would sit down and come up with how I want to put together this Crypto Challenge game.

First of all, I need to decide on the submission mechanism. I think it would be a really cool application of trackback to use it for submissions, but then we run into the problem that people would be posting solutions to their own websites, which could possibly be viewed by other people. As well, unless measures are taken, the answer will appear on my website in the recent trackbacks list. I could always just accept the first submission as the winner and declare that everyone else loses. I could use comments as well. And that would certainly work, but it's just not as cool. :)

I also need to work up some plugins or text filters that will do the crypto for me, just as an exercise if nothing else.

So, what it boils down to is this: do I want to allow multiple people to win each challenge, with the earlier ones earning more points? Or does the first person to submit the correct decryption win and nobody else?

Any thoughts?

the first person to comment or trackback with the correct decryption should be the winner.

If the entries are hidden then I like the idea of a sliding scale for points for winners. Sort of like in TNT Trivia where if you get the right answer but it takes you a bit longer you get fewer points.
