So I've gotten in two swim practices this week. I was pretty out of it after the first one. But after the practice tonight, I just hopped out, got dressed, and went home. My shoulders and upper body are still nice and stiff, but I'm far from as wiped out as I was yesterday.
I seem to have this uncanny gift for bouncing back from being out of shape pretty quickly (at least that is how it appears to me). I've already keeping up with some of the stronger swimmers I've met so far, though after the first continuous fifty yards, I start slowing down. Even after being out for nearly two months back in high school when I had mono, I was back in the game after only a couple weeks of practice. Mind you, back then I was putting in two (or more) hours of swimming a day, at least five days a week, with abotu two miles of swimming per practice. We haven't been doing nearly that much at the YMCA so far. Which is probably just as well, because I've got a heck of a lot more going on in my life now. Fussy plugin users, for example. Kidding! Kidding! :)
At least I've left myself have a coke slurpee two nights in a row now. I should probably pick up something a tad cheaper for a quick sugar hit after practice though.
I just hope we have some kind of competition this summer. That's what I really miss. As much as it drove me nuts back in high school, I realize now how much I thrived on swim meets (or the water polo tournaments). If I have to wait until the fall, I'm going to get pretty antsy. :)
