Well, it looks like I'll be swimming again as soon as next week.
I finally got tired of being out of shape and not exercising, so I went on a hunt today for masters swimming programs in and around my area, and I found a few. A couple of them are even convenient for me. :)
I've already gotten in touch with Mike from the Howard-Catonsville YMCA Masters Swim Team, and I think I'm going to give them a go on Monday.
I know I should be exercizing just to stay fit and healthy, but I have issues just exercising to exercise. I need a goal, some competition, something along those lines to motivate me. And I really miss the competition I had in high school and college. I can't think of anything else I've ever done that has given me such as rush as some of my favorite swimming and water polo moments.
- My first ever water polo game, at The Hill School in PA
- My first ever "official" 50 Freestyle time, 28.35s
- The first time I swam an entire 200 Individual Medley
- When I first broke one minute in the 100 Free, my freshman year of high school at the Catonsville Community College pool against Mt. St. Joseph
- The "annual" Gilman/McDonogh water polo match @ Gilman during my junior year (my first year on varsity), when the guys taking intramural athletics that season were sent to cheer at the game
- The "annual" Gilman/McDonogh water polo match @ McDonogh during my senior year, with classmates of mine waving a homemade flag of dark blue with a silver 'G' in the middle of it
- My first tournament with the College Park water polo club up in West Chester, PA
- Triple overtime against Georgetown at College Park during my sophomore year (we lost by one)
- Going to the Naval Academy every fall for six years
I'm just hoping my shoulder doesn't decide to fall off. :)
Stay away from the "Butterfly" if your shoulder is bothering you.
